Project: "The Lost Backpack"

Now that you have learned some basics about the three phases of production and the techniques used in them, you will shoot your first project. You will take it through all phases of production. You will all storyboard, shoot and edit your own project. You may work in pairs, but there must be a storyboard and unique finished product for each person. Attached is the assignment sheet containing your basic story and detailing the requirements. Here are also some last minute tips.

1. When storyboarding, create a little movie in your head. Think of different angles you can use. Make sure it is something you can feasibly do, but be creative.
2. When you are directing actors let them know how the whole scene plays out. This way when you break it down into shots they can act all the way from before the shot begins until after it ends. Also, they will be able to do it more consistently if they know whats going on and they can be more creative in their acting.
3. Use a shot marker. This is that fancy thing they clap together when they say action in hollywood movies. We don't have those but we do have small white boards where you can write down your project info, scene #, shot #, and take #.
4. Stick to your storyboard. You may have to change small things like which way a person enters the room or what hand they use, but don't stray to far or you will likely have continuity problems. Still, small changes can allow you to show off your creativity.
5. Did I mention anything about creativity? Remember video is about communication. The video world is a replication of the real world. It can't exist unless you create it.
